Prime Minister’s Visit to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, 13 October 2018

Within the framework of the visit to Armenia on occasion of the 17th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie,
The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada,
visited Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to meet with Catholicos of All Armenians. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, accompanied Prime Minister. Attending the meeting were
His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, Director of the External Relations and Protocol Department of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Grace Bishop Abgar Hovakimyan,
Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Canada, and representatives of the Diocesan Council. His Holiness greeted the delegation and extended congratulations on successful Summit. “This was not just an occasion to experience Armenia and to appreciate the Armenian culture, but also an opportunity to enforce relations among francophone countries” – mentioned Catholicos. In his remarks, Catholicos summed up the role and the vocation of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the life of Armenians,
the educational activities of the Church, and the service of the Armenian clergymen
in Armenia and abroad. Catholicos of All Armenians expressed gratitude to the Canadian authorities, in the name of the Prime Minister Trudeau, for the warm attitude towards the Armenian community. In his turn, Mr. Trudeau expressed happiness to be able to re-visit Armenia after decades and to be hosted at the millennia-old spiritual center. His Holiness and Mr. Trudeau exchanged about the importance of inter-church dialogue and the role of political leaders in promoting peaceful international collaboration.
